Honored as a Humane Action Pennsylvania Hero

by

I’m humbled and grateful to share that I was recently recognized as a HAP Hero by Humane Action Pennsylvania (HAP) for my contributions to their Love Your Wild Neighbor campaign—a creative initiative that highlights the beauty and value of city wildlife, specifically pigeons, who are too often dismissed or maligned.

Here’s what HAP had to say in their announcement:

“🌟HAP Hero 🌟

This month, we’re thrilled to honor Scott Kowalski as our HAP Hero! A true creative force in Pittsburgh, Scott is the artist behind our upcoming Love Your Wild Neighbor mural, which will pay tribute to the often-overlooked pigeon. With over 35 years of experience in design, media, and digital development, Scott blends artistic vision with technical precision—crafting everything from clean print layouts to custom websites. Beyond the studio, he’s helped shape Pittsburgh’s creative landscape through his work with Art All Night, leadership of a major nonprofit, and dedication to community-based projects like city cycling events and placemaking initiatives. In support of our campaign, Scott donated his time to design our limited-edition Wild Neighbor merchandise and is generously contributing an original piece to be auctioned off at the Wild Neighbors Dance Benefit on June 28. Scott embodies what it means to use creativity for good, and we are so grateful for his partnership in bringing this meaningful mural—and our mission—to life. Thank you, Scott, for being a true hero for animals and the community!”

It means a lot to have my work recognized in this way—especially when it aligns so closely with my values of community engagement, storytelling through art, and elevating causes that often go unseen. I believe in using creativity not just as an expression, but as a tool for connection, empathy, and awareness.

I’m proud to support this campaign with original design, merchandise, and artwork. And I look forward to unveiling the mural soon, which will serve as a permanent tribute to our “wild neighbors” and the vibrant city we all share.

Thank you again to the entire team at HAP for this honor—and for the work you do every day.
