Pittsburgh Muralist Scott Kowalski
Custom Murals for Businesses, Organizations, and Community Spaces
I’m a Pittsburgh muralist creating custom interior and exterior murals, public art, and large-scale installations throughout Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.
I work with businesses, property owners, nonprofits, and community organizations to transform walls and shared spaces into original artwork built around the location, the people using it, and the story the space needs to tell.

Custom Mural Services
Every mural starts with the space. I work with businesses, property owners, nonprofits, and community organizations to create artwork that fits the architecture, purpose, and personality of the location.
Commercial Murals
Custom murals for businesses, restaurants, retail spaces, offices, studios, and commercial properties. A mural can reinforce a brand, make a building easier to recognize, create a memorable interior, or simply turn an ordinary wall into something people notice.
Public & Community Art
Murals and public-art projects developed with nonprofits, community organizations, and shared public spaces. These projects often begin with a message, neighborhood, or community idea and turn it into something people can experience together.
Interior & Exterior Murals
I create murals for both interior and exterior spaces, from feature walls and branded environments to large exterior installations. Each project is designed around the surface, scale, viewing distance, and way people move through the space.
Selected Pittsburgh Mural Projects
These projects show several different ways a mural can function—from public art and wildlife advocacy to commercial branding and large-scale interior work.
Love Your Wild Neighbor

Created in Pittsburgh’s Strip District in collaboration with Humane Action Pennsylvania, this mural features a mother black bear and her two cubs moving through a quiet meadow. The project brings Western Pennsylvania wildlife into a busy urban setting and encourages people to think differently about the animals that share our environment.
On Trend Hair Studio

For On Trend Hair Studio in Cheswick, I created a bold exterior mural inspired by the salon’s branding and personality. The design combines the On Trend logo, a stylized figure, bright color, and an 1980s-inspired visual direction to turn the building itself into a recognizable part of the brand.
KMMC Properties

This large floral mural wraps around a commercial building on Freeport Road in Cheswick. Oversized flowers, layered color, and organic movement transformed a plain exterior wall into a more welcoming and memorable visual landmark for the property.
MotoPGH

For MotoPGH, I created a large black-and-white interior mural combining the Pittsburgh skyline, bridges, and topography with the company’s oversized logo. The mural connects the industrial character of Pittsburgh with the mechanical culture of the motorcycle shop and gives the interior a strong sense of place.
Public Art & Community Projects
My public-art work extends beyond traditional wall murals. I’ve also worked on projects that bring artists together, transform temporary spaces, and place artwork directly into everyday public environments.
As part of Art All Night, I helped bring together more than 30 Pittsburgh muralists and graffiti artists to transform the walls of an 80,000-square-foot Northside warehouse. The project turned a temporary industrial space into a large-scale celebration of Pittsburgh’s mural and street-art community.

As part of Pittsburgh International Airport’s Concourse Concerto and Free The Music program, I transformed a public piano into a functional piece of abstract art. Bright color, layered shapes, and movement connect the visual artwork with the sound and constant motion of the airport around it.
How a Mural Project Works
Every mural is different, but the process usually begins with the same thing: understanding the wall, the space, and what you want the artwork to accomplish.
1. Tell Me About the Space
Send me the location, approximate wall dimensions, photographs, and anything you already know about the project. You don’t need to have a finished concept.
2. Define the Direction
We’ll talk about the purpose of the mural, subject matter, colors, branding if relevant, and how the artwork should relate to the building or surrounding space.
3. Develop the Concept
I’ll create a visual direction for the mural based on our conversation and the physical space. This gives us a clear plan before painting begins while still leaving room for the work to develop naturally on the wall.
4. Scope, Schedule & Price
Once the direction and scale are established, I’ll confirm the project scope, timing, and price. Factors such as wall size, surface condition, design complexity, equipment needs, and location can all affect the final cost.
5. Paint the Mural
Once everything is approved, I prepare the surface and begin painting. The mural develops from the agreed concept through layers of color, detail, and adjustment until the work feels complete in the space.
Looking for a Pittsburgh Muralist?
If you have a wall, building, business, or public space that could become something more interesting, I’d like to hear about it.
Tell me where the project is located, the approximate size of the wall, what the space is used for, and anything you already have in mind. If you don’t have a finished idea yet, that’s completely fine. We can start with the space and build the concept from there.
