Pink Tigress #1

Pink Tigress #1 lives somewhere between control and instinct. Bold pink color, layered texture, and expressive marks create a painting that feels playful at first, but there is also something more forceful moving underneath it.

I work primarily with acrylic and palette knives, building paintings through layers rather than following a predetermined image. With Pink Tigress, the forms developed through that process of adding, scraping, covering, and responding to what was happening on the canvas. The result is an abstract painting that shifts depending on how closely you look at it.

From across a room, the color and movement hit first. Up close, smaller marks, textures, and relationships begin to emerge. That balance between immediate impact and slower discovery is something I continually return to in my work.

Pink Tigress #1 is an original 21 × 21 inch acrylic painting on canvas created in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is a one-of-a-kind contemporary abstract painting and part of my ongoing exploration of the space between structure and spontaneity, beauty and aggression, calm and chaos.
